Ikarus 400 series in Greece
#1
Good day, hello, hi everyone!

I'm so happy to have found your forum as it is ever so challenging to collect any data on public transport in Greece! Smile
I'm an Ikarus enthusiast from Poland. With this post I'd like to ask you about the current Ikarus fleet still in service.
I'm aware of a little Ikarus 405 KHY-5776 operating every summer in Alimos, I was actually lucky to discover its route two years ago (photos if anyone interested here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fgkm/album...5722782183)

But there are more Ikarus 405 in Greece, aren't there? For example the KHI-3696: https://www.flickr.com/photos/154594097@...504133444/
I have also found an Ikarus 417 from 2019 in your gallery: https://leoforeia.gr/photos/displayimage.php?pid=16004

So I guess my question is... Is it still possible to catch any Ikarus 400 series in Greece (school period) in places like Patras and others?

Any kind of information will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards from Poland!

Welcome FGKM!

The Ikarus 405 you discovered belongs to the City of Alimos, a southern suburb of Metropolitan Athens. This bus still operates special routes for the city.

KHI-3696 belongs to the City of Patras and not to KTEL Patras. As far as I know there are two of them, which are still in operation. I don't know if they run any scheduled service or not. The Ikarus 417 is unfortunately withdrawn.

There was one more Ikarus 405 in the island of Poros, which is abandoned. You can take a look here:

So, the answer to your question is yes, it is possible to catch the 405 in Patras and Alimos during school period.

Greetings from Athens!

Hi Gabor!

as far as I can tell these 3 buses were belonging to Aigaleo Municipality (a suburb of Athens) and they are probably all scraped. The one appears in the picture with the garbage trucks was the first to retire from service in 2007 and the location of the picture is a scrapyard where vehicles belonging to public sector or are confiscated are placed in order to be auctioned usually for scrap.
The 2 others were retired in 2012 were left to rotten in one of the Municipality's garages for at least 2 years and sometime were probably also driven in this scrapyard.

Please pm me your mail address to send you one (not very good in fact) picture of them.
